Online group sessions: connect and grow

Groups offer a shared experience: a sense of belonging, other people’s perspectives and the reassurance that you are not alone. New groups are formed periodically.

What are group sessions, and who are they for?

A psychologist-led group is a structured, safe space where a small number of people, usually 6–8, meet regularly with a psychologist. Participants share their own experiences, listen to others and learn through the group’s shared experience.

Group work can be a valuable form of psychological support, particularly if you want to understand yourself through your relationships with others, develop social skills or meet people with similar experiences.

Groups meet online via Microsoft Teams, so participants can join from wherever they are.

What can group work offer?

Group work offers distinctive benefits through the experience of being with others.

A sense of belonging

Discovering that you are not alone in your struggles can be a powerful part of the process.

Different perspectives

Hearing how others see similar situations can offer fresh insights into yourself and your behaviour.

Social skills

A group gives you a safe place to practise connecting, setting boundaries and expressing yourself with other people.

Mutual support

Group members offer encouragement and support that can stay with you between sessions, creating a natural support network.

Understanding yourself through relationships

Noticing how we respond to others can teach us a great deal about ourselves. A group provides space to explore those responses.

Lower cost

Group sessions usually cost less than individual consultations, making support more accessible.

An initial individual consultation

An individual consultation is recommended before joining. We can discuss whether the format is right for you and prepare for group work.

The group comes together

Once there are enough participants, you will be told when the group starts. Groups are closed, so new members do not join after the first meeting.

Regular weekly meetings

We meet once a week on Teams for 90 minutes. A group programme usually runs for 10–16 sessions.

Frequently asked questions about groups

How does a psychologist-led group differ from individual sessions?

Individual sessions involve working one to one with a psychologist on your own situation. A group adds a different dimension: a sense of community, the chance to hear and learn from other people’s experiences, and the realisation that you are not alone in your difficulties. The two formats can complement each other, and many participants have combined them. A group can be particularly helpful if you want to develop social skills or explore yourself through relationships with others.

How many people are in a group?

Groups have 6–8 participants. This keeps the group small enough for everyone to speak and feel heard, while allowing a lively and varied exchange of experiences. Each group is closed, meaning that new members do not join after the group has started.

Will what I share in the group remain confidential?

Confidentiality is a foundation of group work. Before the group begins, each participant commits to keeping what is shared within the group. The psychologist also follows professional confidentiality standards, just as in individual work.

Do I need previous therapy experience to join?

No previous therapy experience is needed. However, an initial individual consultation is recommended before joining. This helps us explore whether group work is right for you, discuss your expectations and prepare for the group. It is useful both for people with previous experience and those seeking psychological support for the first time.

How do online group meetings work?

Meetings take place on Microsoft Teams. Everyone joins by video so that participants can see and hear each other. Each meeting lasts 90 minutes. The psychologist facilitates the group, gives the meeting structure, introduces themes through supportive questions and makes room for everyone to speak and feel safe. Participants talk and share their experiences and reflections.

How often does the group meet?

Groups meet weekly or fortnightly, depending on their theme and format. Meeting regularly helps a sense of community develop and allows participants to continue reflecting between sessions.

How can I join a group?

Groups are formed periodically, depending on interest and the theme. To hear about the next group, use the contact form or email psichologe.iveta@gmail.com.
